Wrap dresses are one of the most popular styles of dress for a reason - they are incredibly versatile, flattering and easy to wear for all occasions. At first glance, wrap dresses can seem difficult to tie to achieve the desired look, however with our simple step-by-step guide we’ve made wearing a wrap dress simple!

Step-By-Step Guide: How to tie a wrap dress

How you tie your wrap dress is unique to the style of wrap dress you have and also the desired look that you wish to achieve. The most common way to tie a traditional style wrap dress can be broken down into three really simple steps:

  1. The first step is to take one of the ties and loop it through the small hole on the opposite side on the inside waist of the dress.
  2. Feed the tie through to pull the dress tight then grab the other tie and cross them over at the back to secure the dress.
  3. From here you can either tie it in a cute bow at the back of the dress or bring both ties round to the front and tie at the side, depending on which look you prefer.

Another way you can tie a wrap dress is for a plunge effect or kimono effect - both are done quite similarly, the only difference being the kimono effect has one extra step. To tie your wrap dress into a plunge or kimono style simply follow these three steps:

  1. With your wrap dress open, take both ties and cross them over in the middle and pull. Your dress should now have a ruching effect at the waist.
  2. From here you can choose to wrap the ties round to the back and fasten there or wrap them round your waist one more time and secure at the front.
  3. For a kimono style effect repeat step one but then bring one tie through the small hole in the side of the waist and pull through. Again you can now choose to tie at the back or at the front - completely your personal style choice!

Both of these wrap styles are shown below using our most popular DLSB wrap dress. However if you’re looking for an alternative way to wear your favourite wrap dress, simply tie it as a plunge style and wear the dress back to front! This style creates a stunning exposed back look and gives you an extra way to create a whole new look with the same wrap dress.
